Book Review: Merry Kissmas by Piper Rayne šŸ’‹

āāāā

So, first my family outvotes me and decides weā€™re going to spend Christmas in some mountain town instead of the family home, then I run into my fling from London, find out heā€™s my competition for my dream job, and now I have to spend the holidays with said fling.

Synopsis

Six years ago, he was her one-night stand, and now theyā€™re sharing a villa for the holidays.

I thought I was over him. That his good looks and British accent couldnā€™t affect me anymore. But the minute our eyes lock across the elevator, all those feelings come roaring back to life.

Then I find out weā€™re competing for the same job.

Next comes the realization that we have to spend a week together on a ski vacation because of some six-degree-of-separation nonsense.

The real kicker is when I find out the two of us have to share a villa. A very small, very cozy villa.

Needless to say, this Christmas getaway is starting off rockier than the mountains weā€™ll be skiing down.

Iā€™ve stayed away for years, whatā€™s one week? But I forgot how much easier it is to ignore him with an ocean separating usā€”especially when heā€™s determined to win me back.

ā€œMaybe itā€™s Christmas. Maybe itā€™s the magic of the holidays, although Iā€™m not big on them. Maybe weā€™ll never be in contact, but I canā€™t get on my plane knowing that I was too chicken-shit to get your phone number. Somehow, knowing Iā€™m only the press of a button away from hearing your voice calms me, even though neither of us may ever use it.ā€

My Review

Is there a term for ā€œbeach readsā€ for the winter? Ski lodge read? Fireside read? One-bed-cabin-with-your-ex read? While I continue to brainstorm a catchy naming convention for the subgenre, grab a cup of cocoa and curl up by the fire with Merry Kissmas this holiday season!

This was my first step into Piper Rayneā€™s romance world and I couldnā€™t be happier that I applied for this ARC! Merry Kissmas was the perfect way for me to get into the holiday spirit ahead of December. With a charming, confident British MMC (which Iā€™m a sucker for, see: husband) and a headstrong girl that guards her heart, I melted into this story and found myself finishing it within 24 hours of starting it. (No really, I stayed in my bubble bath until 2am, long after the water ran cold, because I couldnā€™t. stop. reading. Thatā€™s when you know youā€™re fully immersed!) As soon as I finished this one, I ran to add the other two related standalones (Claus and Effect, and Single and Ready to Jingle) to my Christmas wishlist.

My favorite scene: designing their gingerbread house before the family competition (IYKYK).

If youā€™re looking for a fast-paced, steamy yet sweet cozy winter read, look no further. If the miscommunication trope isnā€™t usually your jam, I think Merry Kissmas just may change your mind! One star off a 5 star review from me purely because I wish this book was longer, and it wasnā€™t as smutty as I was expecting / saw advertised.

*I received a free advanced readers copy (ARC) of this book from the author, Piper and Valentine PR. My review is my own and reflects my honest opinion about this book. šŸ’œ
