Book Review: The Problem with Players by Brittainy Cherry ⚾

⭐⭐⭐✨

“You must really like me a lot if you want me to be mentally stable, huh?” I joked.

The seriousness in his eyes remained.

“I like you so damn much that it scares me, Avery Kingsley. I’m around you all day, and then I still dream about you, too.”

Butterflies.

Butterflies and Nathan Pierce.

Synopsis

As a female coach, I’ve always lived by a simple mantra: throw hard, swing for the fences, and never, ever look back-especially when it comes to past flames.

So when my ex-boyfriend somehow manages to land the job as my new assistant coach, my life is flipped upside down. The game I thought I'd mastered is now being played with a whole new set of rules.

My ex is baseball's all-star Nathan Pierce. He’s tall, dark, and undeniably handsome. He's also all too eager to spend extra hours working together while flashing that familiar devilish smirk of his that still sends my heart racing.

Between playful teasing and lingering stares I discover that Nathan isn’t just here to work. He’s here to rewrite history. Our history.

And when fate throws another curveball involving me needing a place to stay, Nathan offers up his spare bedroom, which sends me spiraling into emotions I believed had long since faded.

Now I’m faced with the ultimate decision: keep it professional and continue fleeing from our past, or confront it head-on by playing the game he thinks we were meant to finish together.

My Review

That’s it, I’m claiming it - I’m a baseball girlie!! Something must be in the water this spring because I have been absolutely eating up baseball romances, and The Problem with Players did not disappoint!

This was my first introduction to Brittainy Cherry’s work, and such a fun read. Avery’s battle with depression / anxiety was both insightful and relatable without pushing the reader out of the narrative. This story hit home with me even further as a female coach in a male dominated sport that often treats herself too harshly. She’s witty, cynical, and stronger than she knows - my favorite oldest sister of the Kingsley girls!

Nathaniel Pierce is a dreamboat - with good looks, a heart of gold, and an ass that won’t quit, I loved how he stepped up to the plate (ha ha) to provide Avery with whatever she needed as she navigated a whole new season of her life. (Also, who doesn’t want a guy that loves baths and has a bathroom stockpile that probably rivals Lush??)

I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for the next installment in the series following the other Kingsley sisters!

*I received a free advanced readers copy (ARC) of this book from the author, Brittainy and Valentine PR. My review is my own and reflects my honest opinion about this book. 💙
