January 2022 Book of the Month 📅

I decided months ago that I would accomplish two tasks in 2022 - start a blog and finally gift myself an annual Book of the Month subscription, and here we are!

If you don’t know, Book of the Month is a monthly subscription that features 5 - 7 new releases in hardback at an affordable price. Interested in more than one book? No problem, you can add multiple! Oh and skipping a month is a breeze if you find yourself too busy or out of town. Learn more about how it works here!

But let’s get on with my first BOTM selection.

Synopsis:

In stories told in alternating voices, Jean Chen Ho’s debut collection peels back the layers of female friendship—the intensity, resentment, and boundless love—to probe the beating hearts of young women coming to terms with themselves, and each other, in light of the insecurities and shame that hold them back.

Spanning countries and selves, Fiona and Jane is an intimate portrait of a friendship, a deep dive into the universal perplexities of being young and alive, and a bracingly honest account of two Asian women who dare to stake a claim on joy in a changing, contemporary America.

I won’t lie: the pastel cover for Fiona and Jane by Jean Chen Ho is what initially drew me toward clicking on the synopsis. As soon as I discovered it was a coming-of-age collection of short stories about two best friends and how their relationship ebbs and flows as they mature, I was hooked.

While short-stories aren’t usually the first genre I reach for, I’m excited to explore this new release!

If short stories aren’t your bread and butter, additional January picks included:
